Drake & Morgan, the privately owned bar group, launched their fourth site, The Folly, on 41 Gracechurch Street in October 2010. The 13,200 square foot, 500 cover venue includes a large bar, kitchen, deli and flower shop, as well a private dining room and a snug library on the ground floor. The subterranean level sees a bar alongside another private dining room, an evolving pop up shop and private vaults.
Designed by Fusion Design and Architecture Ltd, The Folly is set to be London’s secret garden, bringing a botanical feel to the urban space. Carefully divided areas allow for a flexible use of space and floor-to-ceiling glass windows flood the venue with natural light. Guests enter through the garden lounge, which is filled with hanging chairs and trees to create an interior alfresco terrace. The space opens up into a deli and flower shop, while the main bar and kitchen offer long timber benches, high tables and a chef’s table for 14. An 8m vertical tree trunk provides a focal point joining the basement bar to the ground floor.
The subterranean floor features comfortable seating centred around a cork-fronted bar, whilst a series of raised vaults seat between four and eight guests and a small, regularly evolving ‘pop up’ shop
provides guests with something current, seasonal and fun to explore time and time again.
