The Modern Pantry

Comprising upstairs and downstairs restaurant space as well as a shop/pantry, The Modern Pantry is neatly ensconced in two elegant Georgian buildings on St. John’s Square in Clerkenwell, London. The Grade II-listed buildings were close to derelict when our client, chef Anna Hansen, first came across them.

The challenge for the design firm Jump Studios was to introduce a modern feel to the Georgian palette. The style is contemporary with a homely, almost folksy vibe, designed to create a link between Anna’s approach to cooking and the restaurant itself; to reconnect people with familiar ingredients but in new and interesting ways.

They collaborated with Nicholas Alexander to produce furniture of their own design, including one long, rustic-style table with turned legs, accompanied by Cherish chairs by Horm. London-based studio Hyperkit provided the graphic identity, including cooking utensil motifs which were engraved on table tops.
